Mama D’Lo and Missy G Under the Sea
Mama D’Lo and Missy G Under the Sea is part of the series of artist books “Undercurrents and Folds“, in the 2024 Reading the Migration Library project, hosted by Lois Klassen and Deanne Achong. Photo credits: Clare Yow
On long stretches of paper, folded like the currents and waves of the sea, an orphaned cat encounters Mama D’Lo, a mythical hero from Caribbean folklore. This tiny tale links centuries of Atlantic crossings and imagines an underwater world where voyagers lost among the waves find a transformed life breathing in the sea.

A huge thanks to Lois Klassen for inviting me to co-host the project with her, and to Ruby Lewis who managed to delicately sew in dried up seaweed and not have it turn to dust.
