Flight Path
Flash, 2005
A socially engaged project in the “early”* days of social media. This project was initiated as part of a virtual residency at StudioXX in Montreal. Participants were asked to tell me stories about birds. I did this partly through email and had a webpage that allowed people to fill in stories anonymously if they chose. I posted the link to the invite in as many places as I could think. Flight Path is an imaginary mapped response to these stories. Imagery is blended from found open source movies and particpant’s images. Colours change randomly slowly over time.

*FB invented in 2004 but not opened to the general public until September 6, 2006.
Twitter was launched July 6, 2006.
[NB] I categorize this project under “Public Art” as I consider both the audience participation / dissemination of the work ( and for that matter the interwebs in general ) to fit that under that rubrique – although it was commissioned by a non-profit artist-run centre, not a civic organization.
